10 Signs You Need a Break From Social Media

social media, twitter, facebook, google, linkedin, foursquare, instagram

1.  You keep staring at Mama June’s pictures and wondering if she’s lying about how she lost all of that weight.  Maybe she used Dr. Oz’s latest diet trick your friends have been sharing.

2.  Your friends don’t bother to call you anymore.  They just message you on Facebook.

3.  You know all about the Grammys and didn’t watch them.

4.  You see the same status updates over and over again because you keep refreshing the page.

5.  The number of Facebook groups you’re in exceeds the number of times you’ve left the chair today.

6.  You know what half of the country has eaten for breakfast, and shared that information with the other half.

7.  You recently watched a video that hypnotized you.

8.  You shared the video.

9.  You spend your Saturday nights taking Buzzfeed quizzes, so that you can know what food item you could be.  You find out that you are a sandwich, and then make one and eat it while taking more quizzes.

10.  You have spent an entire week browsing social media, and the best thing you can come up with on a Saturday night for a blog post is this one.

Been there, done that. I'm on the verge of quitting my blog because of it. I'm too entangled in junk.

It happens very easily! It's like a downward spiral. Don't quit the blog, though. Just take a break for a week or so and unplug. You'll feel better. I do that a lot because it all gets to be a bit much.

It's so easy to become obsessed with social media. I often have to limit the amount of time I spend on facebook.

Too much of anything isn't good. I try to regulate my facebook time. People have to live outside the tech world.

Ok...I have a problem! haha I love those, they do make me laugh....and some are true. Oh well...I really do want to shut down my FaceBook page! Anyway, thank you very much for the post!

LOL, totally true. Sort of related - last April, my family and I were in San Diego during the Boston Marathon bombings and we got ALL our info from Facebook and Twitter. They barely talked about it out there, so without SM, we probably wouldn't have even known it had happened.

I would have to say the same thing. Without social media, I'd have no idea what's going on in the world. Disney Junior doesn't show too many news stories lol.

I was a little worried that I would answer YES to most of your points! LOL! Thankfully, I actually kind of hate Facebook, so I couldn't relate to most of them!

This was me this past week. I HAD to take a break from all social media including my blog. I felt like I was becoming disconnected from my daily life. It actually felt really good to take a break. Sometimes we don't realize how wrapped up in social media we can get!

That's one of my biggest weaknesses! Someone should invent quizzes that pay a dime for every user that takes them. They'd be rich!

Oooh. #5 is, um, very very true of me. I don't even want to think of how true it is. Which is why I will spend the next hour taking Buzzfeed quizzes instead of thinking about how long I have been sitting in this chair.

So funny! That was totally me with the Grammy awards. I watched about 30 minutes of it, but then scrolled through Twitter to get the rest of the info. When I do read an actual book or run around the lake, I feel so much better about myself.

I am sure I should take a break, but it's hard! Most people just message me on FB rather than call me these days. I prefer it that way, because it's more convenient and I can work around the messages.

LOL these were great, especially the last one. In my defense about the friends just contacting me on Facebook I didn't give my home number to any of my friends or family because we never have a cordless charged and my cellphone is constantly dying so Facebook is really the only way to get a hold of me lol ;)
